The "boss" just announced it, Maverick is past and the Narwhal is coming. Well, kind of. Maverick is still two months away. Is it me or this time Maverick + 1 codename was announced really early? Anyway, these cycles are really speeding up. It seems like it was just yesterday Lucid went out...
I had the so called "vaipe", an instantaneous inspiration moment, and thought about this.
The content has no sense at all (it's a stupid sentence, in fact), it doesn't bring peace to the world or solves any economical-philosophical-social-[insert matter of great interest to the world here]-al problem, but I had fun doing it and that's what art is all about, isn't it?
Oh, and this was totally done in the new Inkscape 0.48. Go get it for Linux now, boys and girls [LINK]
this looks pretty darn good and yes, it does seem like it was announced really early.
the only thing i really hate about inkscape is that you can't visually keep track and organize objects. it'd be great if they'd let you move around objects in the layers (shift+ctrl+L) box. the few things i do with inkscape tends to end up having a lot of layers of similar size and shape in the same area. it gets frustrating trying to select the right object or just knowing what object i've got selected sometimes. other than that it's a fantastic program.
I'm not sure if this's what you're talking about, but you can move objects trough layers in the Layer Menu (or using Shift + PgUP/PgDn). Or, for easier selection of overlapped objects, you can use Alt + Click. It may help a bit
i'm talking about being able to see the objects and how they're stacked in the layers panel instead of only being able to see layers.
here are some small screen shots of adobe illustrator's layer panel. [link][link] you can see paths and objects and select them from the layers panel. the thumbnails wouldn't be needed as long as inkscape highlighted the actual path or object when it was clicked or hovered over in the layer's tab.
that is the only feature it has that makes me prefer Illustrator over Inkscape. don't get me wrong i really like Inkscape and i still use it anyway. It does everything i want/need it to (and more) except for that. so to me inkscape is that one feature away from being perfect. if i could code i'd have long ago at least tried to add that feature myself and sent it in to try to get it put in for everyone.
being able to select objects in the leyer menu makes editing and arranging things like the third tree in [link] a LOT easier.
the alt click thing should help me out some thanks! also sorry for rambling on i just tend to be long winded an try to explain everything.
